In his richly illustrated talk, the Salzhaff ranger Joachim Springer from NABU Mittleres Mecklenburg e.V. sheds light on the bird life of the Salzhaff and explains numerous special features of this bird sanctuary. He is also happy to share his best tips for birdwatching locations with the audience.
As part of the European bird sanctuary "Wismar Bay and Salzhaff", the Salzhaff is home to a considerable number of very rare waterfowl and wading birds. Currently, 10,000s of birds spend the winter in the lagoon, making it one of the most important resting areas on the coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In spring and fall, migratory birds make a stopover in the area to gather strength for their onward journey.
